The Frioul archipelago is located about 4 km off the coasts of Marseille. It consists in 4 islands: Pomègues and Ratonneau, the two main islands, are connected by a dike, the If island and its famous fortress, and the Tiboulen island. The total superficie of the archipelago is 200 ha for 30 km of coasts that have a multitude of creeks sheltered from the mistral and the eastern wind.
The Frioul port (646 places, 100 temporary places) is sheltered from the mistral and the western wind but exposed to a strong swell from the eastern wind.
